People create others in order to have a better self-definition. They do it to make themselves look better and have a better idea of who they are. They also do it to have a scapegoat, someone to blame for everything. And in this case, it was the Mexicans. The Mexicans were to blame for everything. “Perhaps what scared me most was to realize who was being blamed for all the turmoil. The Mexican/Latino immigrant community was the scapegoat, singled out by politicians (both Republicans and Democrats), fanatic citizen groups like SOS (Save Our State), and by sectors of the mainstream media as the main cause of California’s social ills.”
